City of
Atlanta -- the State of Georgia adopted the 2002 NEC effective
January 1, 2003. It has been reported that over 30 buildings in
Atlanta have already been cited for NEC violations.

State of Colorado -- currently operating under the 2002
NEC.

City of Indianapolis -- has adopted the 2002 NEC.

City of Chicago -- has their own
electrical code (not the NEC) which prohibits all abandoned cabling
in buildings.

State of Virginia
-- still operating under the 1999 NEC; however, the Board of Housing
and Community Development is beginning the process to adopt new
editions of the fire and building codes. The process could
begin as early as 1st quarter of 2004.

State of California -- currently
on the 2001 California Electrical Code which is based on the 1999
NEC. They will go to the 2004 CEC, based on the 2002 NEC within 180
days of adoption by the State. The State has scheduled public
hearings on adoption on 1/13/2004.

City of Dallas -- currently
operating under the 1999 NEC; scheduled to review code changes and
consider adoption of the 2002 NEC in 2004.

City of Irving, TX -- currently
operating under the 1999 NEC; scheduled to review adoption of the
2002 NEC in 2004.

City of West Chicago --
Currently operating under the 1999 NEC.

Partners and let us know if the 2002 NEC has been adopted
by your local municipality and whether there has been any
action by local inspectors on abandoned cabling in your
building. Contact your local electrical inspector or Fire
Marshall if you're not sure.
